Yesterday was a long day of remembering and pulling together of family. I woke up this morning both relieved to have it behind us, and exhausted from both the emotional and physical length of the day.
There's a truly compelling thing about coming together to share and orally celebrate the history of family. It feels like the realest thing; the actual passing down of the legacy of a family. The shared stories and insights from sons, daughters, grandchildren, friends. A coming together, and refocusing for a fuller picture.
And it's both a remembering of what's now past, and a hopeful optimism for all that still stretches out ahead.
